Cyber technology is always evolving and has forever changed how people interact online. Because of the advancements, the influence of cybercrime has also been affected and the interactions between offenders and victims has been impacted as well. Before the world of computers and digital communication, every crime was committed physically; criminals had to be physically present to commit crimes such as theft, assault, etc. All evidence would be tangible. However, with computers and the internet it has been harder to determine the culprit as cyber offenders can commit a crime from any where in the world at any time. Also, because the internet and social media platforms contain a wide variety of people from all around the world, there is a way bigger target selection for offenders. Some cyber criminals can become good at hiding their tracks as well. If they are experienced, their digital traces would be easy to cover up in contrast to actual physical evidence. Ever since the birth of the digital world, new forms of crimes have been present. These include cyberbullying, hacking, phishing, new forms of identity theft, embezzling, digital scams, and more. Many of these crimes can be committed by the offender and some times, they would never get caught. This is because people online can go by a different names, which would conceal their identity. They can also hide their real location with the use of VPNs. Both of these would make it harder for law enforcement to track the offender. As cyber technology develops, new methods for committing crimes would develop as well. As cybersecurity specialists would find ways to patch cyber crimes from happening, cyber criminals will most likely find another way around it. Overall, cyber technology has greatly impacted interactions that happen between offenders and victims. It has given offenders more free will to do crimes with less fear of being caught.
