Entry 1: Why are you interested in Cybersecurity?

Having a background in technology has always been an interest of mine since I was in elementary school. From there on, I have taken computer classes in the mix of my normal high school classes. While in high school, I was even able to obtain my CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification. Even though I am no longer a computer-based major, a former computer science major now a criminal justice major, I still wanted to put my computer background and knowledge that I already possessed, to good use. With an ultimate career goal as an investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), a minor dealing with cyber security seemed ideal. I choose cyber security not only to strengthen my knowledge in the field but also to help assist me in my future career. In today’s society, technology is rapidly developing and advancing. Just as these technologies are being developed there is a need for those technologies to be protected. Also, I choose cybersecurity because there never really is a dull moment. As someone that has a significant amount of technology and uses technology on a daily basis, it is also important for me to learn and understand how to protect and secure my information. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started roughly three years ago now, at one point in time, life operations had gone completely virtual. From working, church and funeral services and even how we were learning in schools all changed. With being converted to a completely internet-based sense of living, there were tons more protection and security that needed to be developed. This is another reason why I became interested in cybersecurity because a method that worked to protect a system last week could have been exploited leaving systems vulnerable to attacks. I wanted to help prevent or make systems more sound to lessen the threat of breaches.
