Cybersecurity is a growing industry that will only continue to grow as the world further develops. Technology and the usage of the internet have been a vital part of the daily operations of individuals and businesses and have only grown significantly from the effects of COVID-19 sitting the world into a virtual environment. With inquiries and interactions online and even those businesses that handle inquiries face to face, what does cybersecurity mean to those businesses? Businesses and their success rely very heavily on the trust and relationships that are built with their customers. We, as customers, are trusting businesses with a piece of our personal information and expect such businesses to keep our information secured. One benefit of having a cybersecurity program developed in businesses is to do just that; keep our information secured. Businesses are almost always the target for hackers due to the fact of how much information of other individuals can be stored in them. Having a system that is able to track who is accessing information and when, a way to monitor and filter incoming and outgoing traffic on a network, training for employees, and a team of information technology and cybersecurity professionals to combat and prevent cyber related attacks. Businesses fear the day that there is a cybersecurity breach within their organization. Why? When a security breach happens, it costs the business money. People have to be notified that their information could have been exploited, the downtime cost it takes to recover a system, and more importantly, the trust and relationship that is broken between them and the customer. It costs a business more to defend against a cyber attack once it has already occurred than to have a system in place with policies and procedures that are constantly being enforced and reinforced to keep businesses afloat. Already having a cybersecurity plan and policy established, in the long run, can decrease some of the costs that are associated with a cyber attack.
