Cyber engineers have a very important job and responsibility. Especially today with the world becoming more technologically advanced and reliant, these systems need to be protected. Everything is done on a network. Whether that network is public or private and secured and unsecured is a different story but not complicated to tell. Or are they? Networks need to be secure. There is an abundance of personal information that is out there and needs to keep the integrity it was given. A cyber network, in general terms, is a network of devices that work together. With these networks, there is a need for cyber security. Cyber security is the protection of these networks and devices. Many organizations today, like medical, government, and financial institutions all use a cyber network. Their connections have to stay secured. If not, it opens the door to information being stolen or misused. This is the job of cyber engineers; to make sure that our information stays protected.
Cyber engineers aren’t just professionals in cyber security. These engineers can include information technology specialists, network security, and information security, just to name a few. They all have one goal in common, the protection of systems. Cyber engineers just don’t get new software updates and patches because they feel like developing one. It is a joint effort. Individuals known as whitehat or ethical hackers help lead and guide these engineers. They are sometimes hired by the government to exploit systems to show where they are weak. If they can infiltrate a system, it shows where the vulnerabilities are and what can be done to fix them. Additionally, they are also tasked with planning, implementing, managing, and monitoring these systems to help mitigate and react to unauthorized users. They are sometimes even working in real-time putting up a defense against attacks. These engineers are constantly working with each other to find the best possible solution to keep our systems safe. While no system is completely secured, these cyber engineers make sure that we have a plan of action ready in case an attack occurs.
