My Time as an Adventurer

Out of all the classes I took in this semester of college, this class was by far my favorite and the most interesting. Having to call you (Professor Watson), as my guild leader has been an honor. You have taught me so many skills in the way of writing from personal narratives all the way to research papers. I learned that writing doesn’t have to be a dreadful experience and that you can actually have fun with it. When I first started this class, my biggest concern was being able to reach word count for the assignments because I struggled with staying focused on writing. I wanted to improve upon writing format and my writing skills overall. And I can say with full confidence that these goals have been achieved.

One of my favorite assignments we did in this class was the rhetorical analysis paper/remix. In this assignment, we had to find a rhetorical artifact and analyze whether it had logos, pathos, egos, or kairos. Then we got to remix it into our own rhetorical artifact which I found to be fun. Being able to put this much creativity into our writing assignments is something I really enjoyed in this class. Of all the assignments we had in this class I can’t really say I didn’t dislike any of them. Although I will say this is probably my least favorite of them all, simply put because it means the end of our time together.

Throughout this class, I learned a lot that is going to help me with my future endeavors. To start off, I learned about a bunch of the resources offered here at ODU including the help team at the library and JSTOR to help with other research assignments. Along with that, I was taught how to actually do good research and the things to look for when doing so, which is an essential life skill.

Although I had a great time while in the guild, there are some things that I would have done differently. Firstly, I would have hoped to participate more in the class discussions and the class overall. Professor Watson sometimes held group assignments which should be taken advantage of; make new connections and learn from each other. Another thing I would have liked to have done differently was not procrastinate as much. We are given plenty of time to get our assignments done so take advantage of it. Don’t wait until the last minute and then stress over an assignment when you had weeks to complete it before.

Despite the fact I’ve been taught by the greatest guild leader, there is still more I want to learn. I know my writing is not perfect, so I would like to learn many more skills to improve it. Overall, my experience in this class is one I will not forget. Being able to make a puppet in a college course  is something you will see nowhere else. Professor Watsons’ class was one of a kind and I will forever be grateful to him and all he taught me.
