I chose this commercial because it had two of my favorite actors, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan. The purpose of the commercial is to get people to buy Lay’s chips. This was one of the great commercials that aired during the superbowl. In the commercial it shows Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd sharing a bag of Lay’s going over the “golden memories” they had together; This is also right before Seth’s wedding. The audience of this commercial could be considered everybody because I feel like everyone has “golden memories” they’d like to go back to. But I think it was more specifically towards an older audience because it was centered around a wedding, and because it aired during the superbowl.

I believe that the commercial does a good job overall as a rhetorical device. It contains ethos, pathos, and you could even say kairos; but lacks in the logos area. It contains ethos because of the famous actors used in it, Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd. If you trust their judgment or like them as actors, seeing them enjoy the Lay’s would persuade you to think Lay’s are good/ you should buy them. The commercial contains multiple forms of pathos. One of these forms is the happiness shown throughout the commercial. One reason is because the whole commercial is about having “golden memories” while eating the Lay’s. And who doesn’t like reliving their youth, the good parts at least. And at the end of the commercial, it’s Seth Rogan getting married to a ghost (or something like that) and having fun in general with Paul Rudd. Another reason this commercial contains pathos is through the comedy shown throughout it. The memories they had together were commercial, making the audience laugh. The reason I believe the commercial has kairos is because it was aired during the superbowl. And the superbowl is known to have some of the best commercials, so airing a commercial during it means a lot of people will be watching it. The only thing the commercial fails on was having logos. And that brings me to my remix.

So for my remix I wanted to incorporate logos into my artifact. I decided to use baked lay’s in my remix in order for my slogan to work. My slogan is “Have baked lays while baked”. My remix incorporates pathos because I have a smiling high face because he is enjoying a bag of baked lays. I also have the logos on the bottom of the poster stating the “healthiness” of baked lays(at least compared to other potato chips). I also argue that there is kairos in this because around this time weed is getting legalized throughout the U.S.

Works Cited Page

Frito-Lay North America, Inc.
