Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

Technology and computers have affected nearly every facet of modern-day life, making it nearly impossible for society to function without them. Computers grant us multitudes of advantages when it comes to tackling day-to-day life, especially when it comes to our security. Computers can now be used for protecting information, people, and facilities. For example, security systems and security cameras allow authorities to easily locate perpetrators while deterring potential criminal activity. Multiple crimes have been solved with the use of technological security measures, many of which continue to advance. The use of automated systems has also increased public safety and that of those that work on dangerous sites such as oil rigs, nuclear power plants, and space stations. Some of these include automated fire sprinklers, system failure protection systems, and ICSs(Industrial Control Systems). ICSs allow for remote control of large facilities, while also providing workers with maintenance guides and diagnostic data via HMIs or Human Machine Interfaces. Computers have also greatly improved modern healthcare, which has lifted heavy burdens from medical staff. These machines can save lives, act as artificial hearts, scan the body for abnormalities, and even filter blood. Thousands of lives are saved yearly thanks to these medical and technological advances. Though computers have greatly improved safety around the world, they have also introduced many new dangers. Computers have allowed criminals to stalk whomever they please via social media, with limited prevention in their path. Perpetrators can learn mass amounts of vital information on their victims, such as age, occupation, and location, which put victims at great risk. Worldwide stability has also become jeopardized due to the introduction of automated weapons and missiles in recent decades. One of the most prevalent, yet cliché modes of cybercrime, would be hacking. Hacking puts critical information at risk and can be exasperated by political tension. Foreign powers can attempt to hack banks and government agencies, giving them the upper hand and bargaining chips.
