Learning style :

Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?  The only class I would say I try to study for is chemistry. I go over my notes that I wrote and just read over them.

  1. What specific techniques do you use in class?  Basically the teacher is going over the PowerPoint introducing the information so i try my best to write the info before she goes to the next slide.
  2. What specific techniques do you use outside of class?  If i didn’t write all the information down i go back into the PowerPoint and write what i missed.

Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why? I feel like I’m doing well in my English class. I don’t study for his class because my professor basically explains the information so well.

STEP 2: IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES

  1. Identify one class where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions.  Chemistry class is the class I’m having all of trouble in. The teacher is so nice but it’s like everything is in fast motion and i just don’t understand the info being taught.
  1. Review at least 5 academic tips/resources listed here: https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips What is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material? I feel like touring would be the best option for me with this course because i could get help with the material I don’t understand.
  2. What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material? Well right now i go on YouTube and talk to some of my classmates about what i don’t understand.

Interview a health professional : The person I chose to interview was a person from my church and I really didn’t know a lot about her. I just knew she was smart and very educated. Her name is Katrina Joyner and she Is a MSW social worker at sentara hospital. She  studied at Old dominion university where she received her bachelor’s degree then she went back to school at Norfolk state university for her masters for human services. What inspired Katrina to choose this career path was that she cares a lot about people and wants to help others and she really thought this career is an interesting career and just hearing others out about their life and real situations. Her career before she got to where she is that When trying to finish getting her masters at Norfolk state university she was working at capital one because she struggled to find a job dealing with social work as graduating from Norfolk state she had to get her license to be a social worker for children but she also wanted to deal with medical patients too. As she was trying to figure out a way to help children that were medical patients, she got to asking others she knew and even family members that could help her get to where she is now. The responsibility for her job is providing  medical social work  services to the patients receiving care in the hospital area. Katrina’s rewarding aspect for her job is that she loves just being there for her patients and just making them feel like they are heard and they are important. The most surprising aspect of her career is that it has made her become a better person and realizing that everyone has a purpose. The most challenging part about her career is  when she was trying to find jobs for her career after graduating college. Some advice she would give to others is this field will not be the easiest. You have to put your everything into what you want. You cannot give up on yourself and always keep God close.
