Journal #3

There are always ethical issues everywhere, Computers are no different. In this journal, I will describe 4 different ethical issues that come with storing electronic information about individuals. The first one is surprising about cars, self-driving ones. As these cars have to constantly store data about what is around them I think this problem falls into this journal. The idea is if a tesla is self driving and comes to a crosswalk where 2 people walk out on different sides on the road and the Tesla does not have enough time to stop which person does the tesla hit? There is no easy way to program that for an AI to make that decision so it is an ethical problem. The second is in regards to HIPPA, HIPPA is a law that helps keep your health information safe from others, but with the merge to online databases the doctors are not the ones who run the and their backups, so how does an admin make sure that the data is still safe without actually looking at said data and breaking HIPPA laws. Next, let’s talk about e-trade, if you are a personal investor that works for some data company and you find out some information about company A losing profits and the investor has stock in company A he will most likely sell an ethical issue. Finally, there is the issue of stealing data, if you run a small business and the owner hires a larger data firm to take care of the online money transfers if a person at said large data company gets pressured by an outside source to give up a card info on users that is a very possible data breach. These are all ethical issues that can come with storing information.
