Cybersecurity has become an important field due to today’s use of technology. Some may think that knowing everything about technology will cause any problems to go away but the factors that human behaviors and social science principles also play a big part in understanding cybersecurity as a whole. I will focus on the career of a Cybersecurity Policy Analyst it ties into these social science principles. 

Cybersecurity isn’t just all technology, it also involves understanding human behavior to effectively confront these cyber threats due to some of these attacks stemming from taking advantage of psychological vulnerabilities. For example, phishing relies on the understanding of trust and social interactions. These types of interactions are what cybersecurity professionals must recognize in order to assess risks. 

Cybersecurity Policy Analysts focus on implementing things that enhance security from cyber threats. In order to get a better understanding of the position you must utilize social science principles such as looking into behavior, cultural background, communication, and also analyzing social context. 

For behavior, Cyber Policy Analyst use principles to make policies that promote safe online behaviors. These analysts must also think of the cultural differences while approaching cybersecurity. Marginalized groups might have different needs when it comes to coming up with strategies. Effectively communicating also comes into play when trying to get a certain message out. Understanding social context where technology is used can help identify things that promote a safe security environment.

For example, due to injustices in the past, marginalized groups may not trust these policies. A fix to that is having proper engagement which is important for both parties. Another problem is the adapting to fast evolving cyber threats which means analysts must both keep up with these threats while also taking into account the impact it has on marginalized groups. 

Overall, the dynamic between cybersecurity and social science is very complex and complicated. As threats evolve, making sure you understand social dynamics become more important for these analysts. By implementing viewpoints from behavior, social context, understanding culture, and communication, cybersecurity professionals are able to cater to marginalized groups along with society overall.
