The 7 Individual Motives
Humans are motivated by a variety of different things ranging from rewards to personal
gratification. The individual motives that will be covered in this journal are entertainment,
political, revenge, boredom, recognition, money, and multiple reasoning. I will also be ranking these motivations from 1 to 7 as to what motives I think make the most sense (1) and what
make the least amount of sense (7).
Breaking these motives down
Starting off with entertainment, some individuals are motivated purely for the fun and
enjoyment of whatever they are doing. This could include things like pranks or messing with
people online or could be a more harmful type of action. Political, some people can act based
on their political beliefs or an agenda to affect public opinion like protests or even something like
hacking or corrupting campaigns. Revenge, when someone feels like they have been wronged
they might be motivated to exploit secrets or find ways to get back at whoever wronged them.
Boredom, some people might act on something simply because they have nothing better to do
and can lead to impulsive decisions. Recognition, this could be someone who is looking for
validation or attention and would do anything for it. Money, financial gain is a motive that is
behind various acts like theft and fraud. Multiple reasoning, this is when people are being driven
by a mix of different emotions that build on each other and make the person act on impulse.
Ranked motives:
I feel like the ranking from what makes the most sense to what makes the least amount
of sense should be as follows. 1.) Multiple reasons: this makes the most sense to me because it
includes multiple different motives. When politics, revenge and money are paired together it can
be a strong motive for someone. 2.) Money, with how the prices of everything is going up it
makes sense that money would be a big motive. 3.) Revenge, there is a lot of anger in the world
and when people feel like they have been wronged getting revenge seems like something that
could persuade people to do an act. 4.) Political, this has an impact on the way most people live
their lives. When the elections happen and people aren’t happy with the way they went they can
lash out. 5.) Recognition, some people need the validation of others or are fueled by that and it
motivates them. 6.) Boredom, this makes less sense to me because boredom is when people
have nothing better with their time and I feel like the other motives are better justified. 7.)
Entertainment, this motive makes the least amount of sense to me because I feel like if you
want to be entertained there are better ways to get that satisfaction. I feel like this goes hand in
hand with boredom to a certain extent.
