I am interested in Cybersecurity technology because it can be applied through many fields such as medicine, business, insurance, and automobiles. This versatility allows Cybersecurity to be adapted to almost any professional career because there is no shortage of Cyber-related issues in our society. Especially, since all of our information is accessed online, cybersecurity can protect our infrastructure from cyber attacks and prevent others from tampering with the default settings. Also, cybersecurity is enticing for a college student because it is a growing profession and a high level of expertise is required in the workforce, allowing me to become quickly employed when I graduate. Another reason I became fascinated with cybersecurity is through my first encounter with a virus. My laptop would randomly open up to different sites and start lagging, despite my careful usage. I worked many solutions to diagnose the problem, until I downloaded an antivirus to scan my files on the laptop. It turns out that one of the applications that I installed contained adware on the package. Finally, the adware got isolated and deleted with an application called Malware-bytes, which I still use to this day as my primary anti-virus. Ever since, I have become more aware of my privacy and cautious when dealing with the online world. Another problem that leads me to cybersecurity is the leakage of passwords because it is a simple solution, but has been one of the biggest problems in the age of technology. Sometimes, hackers disguise their motives through phishing scams, which if a person clicks on the link, their account information may become compromised. For example, my friend sent me an unknown link and I clicked on it to see the contents of the site, but there was nothing on the site. Later, I received a notification saying my Instagram account was hacked and I realized that the link was a prank. I had to change my password to regain access to my account and I deleted the link from my account for assurance.
