There are many ways to tell if your computer is safe. The most important thing is the passwords. Don’t use the same passwords because if someone knows one, then he/she has the means to break into your computer. Another method that keeps your computer safe is the browser. Tons of websites contain malware and other dangerous files, so check to make sure that a website is secured by a trustable certificate and use an adblocker to stop accidently triggering popups. When downloading software, use app stores that are reliable and download official software on the company’s website. Keep an anti-virus to detect any malware and clean them out of your computer. Use messaging apps that are encrypted, so no one can spy on your chat history. Not only taking care of the software can preserve the computer, but taking care of the hardware is another important task. Clean the fans on the computer because they can clog with dust and slow down the operation of the fans. Don’t leave the computer plugged all day long, even when it is turned off because the battery can overcharge which will reduce the capacity of the battery. The settings of the computer are time-consuming to tweak, but they can ensure that no one has messed with the settings. Adjust permissions for apps to restrict their usage, like location, Bluetooth, microphone, and notifications. Perform weekly updates on your operating system, like Linux, Windows, or MacOS and any apps that are default on the computer. Never place a computer in an environment that is too hot or too cold because it can increase the damage on the computer. When a computer is overheating, shut the device down to let the temperature reach minimal status. If the computer is infected with severe malware or damaged physically, take the computer to a repair shop to recover the data, or replace parts of the computer. Don’t try to fix the computer if you have no knowledge because you might do something that is off-limits.
