Artifacts
This is my first video assignment. It was given very early in the class so it was fairly simple. I was tasked to pronounce the Spanish letters correctly and record myself doing it. This assignment helped me to pronounce the letters correctly. Before this, I didn’t know how to say some of these letters in the Spanish way and now I know.
Exploring Culture

1st article I was given to read
This article, which was given to the class to read, discusses how important family is to Hispanic families. I compared their family roles to those in the average American family. The Hispanic family structure is set up like a monarchy while the American family structure is looser. This article helped me better understand another culture’s family.
Interpersonal Communication
This audio is my first TalkAbroad conversation. This assignment was challenging as I never had a full Spanish conversation with a native Spanish speaker let alone someone who doesn’t speak English. I understood some of what my partner was saying but not all of it. She did work with me on what Spanish I did know instead of giving up on me. From this conversation, I learned I need to listen to Spanish speakers to see if I can understand what they are saying and see if I can respond to them with my Spanish vocabulary.
Presentational Speaking
This is my first Flipgrid assignment where I had to play a recording in the background as I responded to it. I had to restart the video multiple times. I didn’t understand how to fit the whole conversation into the time frame but I figured it out and finished it. I also struggled on figuring out what I could say with my limited Spanish vocabulary. I did figure it out and I turned the assignment in on time.
Presentational Writing

Mis actividades deportivas discussion post
¿En qué estás trabajando? discussion post

In these discussion posts, I watched videos about other people’s cultures and noted what sports and jobs were popular. I learned much about popular sports and gender role jobs in Spanish-speaking cultures. Writing these posts was fairly simple and the content was very relatable.
Interpretive Listening
In this assignment, I had to listen to a Spanish speaker and choose the right option. Certain parts of this assignment were easy. Since this was new information, I barely knew anything so I did struggle a bit. I also struggled with understanding the speaker because they were speaking quickly. If I were to do this assignment now, I would be able to do it confidently.
Interpretive Reading
Last article I was given to read

This article, which was given to the class to read, tells us about Spain’s healthcare system. I found that Spain has free healthcare and it even covers immigrants. I learned that free healthcare is possible if your country cares for its people.
