Old Dominion University offers a tremendous number of majors. Even though it most likely would not seem this way, many of these majors are in some way related to cybersecurity. Four majors that are related to cybersecurity are Computer Science, Criminology, Engineering, and Psychology.

The first major that relates to cybersecurity is computer science. Computer science is a field, that in large part, studies computers and how they work. Cybersecurity is a subset of computer science because it involves protecting computer networks and programs from hackers. In order to work in the field of computer science, you would need a bit of knowledge on cybersecurity to keep networks safe and working.

The second major that relates to cybersecurity is criminology. The field of criminology looks at who committed the crime and why the crime was committed. As we know the number of blue-collar crimes such as robbery has been going down over the past couple of years. However, the number of cybercrimes is ever increasing. Since a criminology major looks at people who committed crimes of all types, they would be studying individuals who engaged in cybercrime.

The third major that relates to cybersecurity is engineering. Engineers look at and study the principles of mathematics and science. They put all of this together to create a final project such as a computer. Many different branches of engineering require some semblance of cybersecurity including computer engineers, electrical engineers, and system engineers.

The fourth major that relates to cybersecurity is psychology. Psychologists look at individuals and try to understand why they commit certain acts. If a person commits a cybercrime, a psychology major will be able to look at them and understand why they did what they did. By doing this, hopefully, they can understand why a cybercriminal acts so we can limit them.
