Cybersecurity is a relatively new field. Because of its relative novelty, many businesses don’t immediately think about implementing cybersecurity measures into their businesses, despite all of the benefits and dangers of not doing so. “As businesses become more interconnected” is an overused cliché, as businesses are almost all completely connected with almost every facet of commerce. Failure to do so would put the business at an immediate disadvantage. Due to the advantages that being interconnected with forms of commerce, customers, vendors, and other financial sectors, modern cybersecurity measures need to be implemented within these businesses to ensure the safety of operations within the businesses.
Cybersecurity development can be costly depending on the size of the business. Cybersecurity infrastructure involves many parts to ensure successful protection. Direct costs for implementation may include (but is not limited to) the actual hardware to create the infrastructure, software to assist cybersecurity professionals in monitoring the networks, firewalls, or malware protection. Paying of certified professionals may be needed to help set up this infrastructure, as well as the hiring and training of employees to run and continue monitoring the network. If incidents do occur, it is beneficial to have trained employees on hand that can resolve the issue in a timely manner.
After the initial costs for implementation are resolved, businesses can begin to see the benefits of their cybersecurity framework. Some of these benefits are obvious, such as the prevention of cyberattacks, sensitive data leaks, and customer security. When a well implemented system is in place, businesses and the customers that they are serving are significantly more protected than businesses that do not have any cybersecurity measures in place. Prevention of cyberattacks is important in continuing the operations of said business, ensuring that no profits, sensitive data, or time is lost. Cyberattacks can cause businesses thousands, tens of thousands, even millions in damages. There is basically a direct correlation between downtime within a network (from any cause) and profits, so having a persistent threat detection and prevention measures is of the utmost importance to ensure a businesses survival and growth.
