I&#8217;m sure we all have heard the phrase \u201cMoney is the root of all evil\u201d. I believe that individuals who commit cybercrime are often motivated by financial gain, although not always. As highlighted in the article \u201cSex, Drugs and Toilet Rolls: How Cybercriminals Spend Their Money,\u201d cybercriminals tend to spend their earnings on bad habits and to attain status. I rank revenge second; when money is not the motive, individuals often commit cybercrime as a form of payback. Curiosity occupies the third rank. Some people, confident in their abilities, are willing to break the law to push their limits. Recognition is fourth, as some individuals seek attention through cybercrimes. Politics comes in fifth, as some are willing to commit cybercrimes to damage opponents. Entertainment is sixth; few people commit cybercrimes purely for amusement. Multiple motives contribute to the seventh ranking, indicating that cybercriminals may act for more than one reason.
