Four majors that relate to cybersecurity:
- Big Data analytics: Big data analytics at first doesn’t sound like it would relate to cybersecurity but they are similar. Data analytics reviews data and uses it to implement different strategies for different businesses or for government operations. Cybersecurity does something similar where we take data from our systems and servers to implement better strategies for preventing hacking or cyber security events. Both majors only have converting data and implementing them, both cybersecurity and data analytics both look for trends and then adjust their plans to implement these trends.
- Technology education: Technology education in my opinion is a stepping stone for a career in cybersecurity. Technology education can teach younger generations about cyber threats, like phishing or online ads that look like download links. It can also teach young students about coding and computers which is what cybersecurity does, we work with computers. Technology education can build a foundation for younger people to pursue a degree in cyber security.
- Engineering/computer engineering: Engineering is a broad field with many different disciplines that do many different things. Computer engineering is a specific field of engineering that has to deal with computers and their systems, like cybersecurity they work on the hardware and software involving computers and servers. Computer engineering has some sub-disciplines inside it like computer modeling, where they use simulation software to run programs and test systems, like cybersecurity where we use a software called packet tracer to run a simulation to test networks.
- Computer Science: Computer science is very similar to cyber security. Both test and work with software and hardware. Like with cybersecurity computer science works with algorithms to improve software and build better systems. Cybersecurity divulges a little into theoretical methods for software, just like computer science where they go more into the theoretical side of software and hardware.
