My answer to the question of what my major has to do with cybersecurity technology is that it has everything to do with it. I am currently enrolled with an academic plan to obtain a B.S. in cybersecurity. Throughout my entire academic career in school I will be exposed to the practices and broad knowledge of what the cybersecurity industry entails, and the technologies associated with it. I look forward to learning about the incredible technological accomplishments that have been achieved in the field as well as learning how to actually use the methods and innovations that come along with this type of career path/ major. During my studies I will be able to take advantage of hands on projects, research projects, and tutelage from professionals in the field. But also, on top of the technology, is the education in the methodologies/ ways of thinking that I will learn that would ensure that my utilization of cybersecurity technology is done in safe and ethical ways. The amount of responsibility and power that comes from learning about this, cybersecurity technology, most certainly needs to be backed by strong ethical teaching. Being able to use the technology is not the same as being able to use it properly. Another bonus to my major is that it will broaden my horizons in regards to the different fields within cyber security. Even with an idea of what I wish to specifically gain from this major, just learning it will perhaps show me another career path I may desire within the industry. Either way, once completing the studies regarding my major, I hope that I too will be an expert in cybersecurity technology.
