What are four other majors offered by ODU that relate to cybersecurity is the question. Well, firstly there is psychology. This major is deeply connected to cybersecurity. A cybersecurity professional, no matter which career path someone decides to take in the profession, will require you to be able to understand how people think, and why they do what they do, on some level. For example, a person part of a red team will need to know how to think like a criminal to be good at their job. the study of psychology would allow one to do that more efficiently. The stronger someone’s grasp on psychology is the better they will be as a cybersecurity professional. Another major that relates to cybersecurity would be computer science. Being able to competently use digital resources is the bread and butter of both majors. While there are some cybersecurity jobs that may not require you to be on a computer, most of them will. So, a strong background in tech is what makes both of these majors so similar. Another major would be communications. The better you can communicate your thoughts and intentions to those around you, and the better you are at being able to listen, are both invaluable skills in any given career path, especially in cybersecurity. In an industry that is as technical and often times competitive, being able to communicate well with your team or office could be the difference between a great day of no incidents, or the loss of millions of dollars in damages. Lastly there is computer engineering. While it is in a different field of tech, the fields can be very similar, depending on what part of cybersecurity it is being compared to. Due the highly technical aspects of both majors it is easy to see how they are closely related.
