How does cyber technology impact interactions between offenders and victims?

Advancements in cyber technology have greatly impacted the interactions between offenders and victims; in some ways it’s allowed for heightened protection for victims and those vulnerable to becoming victims from offenders, and in other ways has only allowed for them to be exploited in more ways. One of the greatest gifts to everyday individuals when it comes to cyber technology is the fact that it grants them more access to information regarding resources that could defend them from attacks. Things like malware and antivirus programs, not to mention the access they have to the robust internet where almost anything is searchable, allows people to better protect themselves. Advancements in cyber technology have also aided law enforcement agencies in doing their jobs but helping them solve crimes more efficiently; digital forensics plays a major part in identifying and bringing criminals to justice, something that would not be possible without cyber technology. On the other hand though, cyber technology can in some ways be detrimental to individuals by aiding offenders in committing their offenses. One of the major impacts of cyber technology has allowed offenders to be able to commit crimes from virtually anywhere, which only broadens the scope of vulnerability against people. Furthermore, the fact that offenders now have greater access and knowledge that can cause malicious intent, only adds to this. Some methods cybercriminals use consist of things like hacking, cyber stalking, identity theft, and more. These things can be harmful to victims in numerous ways; in some cases it manifests as emotional distress due to the acts of the perpetrators and in other ways it can manifest into financial loss, reputational damage, and more. A major phenomenon of the harms of modern technology that’s well known, is cyberbullying. This is an issue that can affect all people, but most importantly affects highschool students, one of many examples of the harms of cyber technology.
