This semester Professeur Schulman hosted guests who own businesses to share their experiences. The events were open for anyone to come so that they, too, could learn about owning and maintaining a business.

The first guest speaker of the semester was Lindsay Sims, owner of Maison Soleil. She spoke about the difficulties she encountered over the past several years that she had begun her business. With a background in finance, she focuses on keeping her business functioning while also ensuring ethical and sustainable fashion at an accessible price. During her presentation, and the very existence of her business, her adaptability to the market is evident. Not only did she open up her physical store during the height of COVID-19, but she also continued to strive to adapt her business plan to the drastic changes in market. Sims’ business shows her dedication to keeping a quality product while also keeping up with the changing market.

Another notable speaker was Kerrie Stacks, the event consultant of the Bold Mariner. Their company is veteran owned and operated. Her company also met many difficulties during COVID-19, but the duo recovered well and are still operating strong. In its time operating, the Bold Mariner has received several awards. The Stacks have made strategic changes and even moved location to improve their business. This business, too, shows that the owner strives to adapt to new challenges while working to improve the quality of the product.
