EFFECTIVE REFLECTION
A big/significant refresher was the conjugating. This is important to know to be able to put sentences together. Although I also see pronunciation and enunciation. to be just as significant and can be just as challenging. These factors are important so that the person you are speaking to understands. In many instances, you may be saying a phrase correctly but if you do not pronounce or enunciate properly, the listener may not understand.

EXPLORING CULTURE
The one thing that has pushed me to want to become fluent in Spanish is the sentiment I have towards my best friend’s parents. They are immigrants from Mexico and only speak Spanish although they can understand English. I am the opposite. When they speak to me in Spanish, I would respond in English. Although this form of communication works, I still want to be able to speak to them in Spanish. Thanks to my best friend and the family, they have taught me about their culture.
ENGAGING IN COMMUNITIES
Taking SPAN101 at ODU has provided me the opportunity to be a part of a student community that enjoys learning a new language as much as I do. Having a great professor that engages with students and supports a student’s passion is very valuable. Eventually, I would love to dive deeper into the culture and study abroad.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
I enjoy listening to Latin music and watching telenovelas. Constantly hearing someone speaking in Spanish has helped me with interpretation.
PRESENTATIONAL SPEAKING
We had FlipGrid assignments that required us to record ourselves speaking Spanish. In one video, we had to pronounce the alphabet. This assignment was fun because we had to get used to pronouncing words correctly. In another, we had to describe a person we liked and a person we did not like. We also had to state characteristics of the person as to why we liked them or did not like them. The second assignment helped us students really put together complete sentences to describe not only ourselves but others. Overall, the video assignments were beneficial because we had to hear ourselves speak. It is important to be aware of how you sound when speaking.
PRESENTATIONAL WRITING
LingoLearning was a very useful tool to help students with writing. A good portion of the modules required writing or filling in the blank after conjugating words.
INTERPRETIVE LISTENING
We were given many videos that had audio of word pronunciations. Within LingoLearning, we were required to listen to conversations and interpret what was being said. At times we repeated what was said in the audio and other times we were to choose which the correct response would be in Spanish.
INTERPRETIVE READING
In LingoLearning there was a good amount of reading we were required to do. Some were written articles that we needed to read in order to answer prompts. There modules that taught us students are to read class schedules in Spanish.
