SPAN 102

EFFECTIVE REFLECTION

This course was more advanced than my previous course in a sense of real world integration. We stepped away from the basic pronunciations and enunciations and utilized what we learned so far in daily conversation.

ARTIFACTS

In this audio you can hear conversation between myself and a Spanish speaker. We introduced ourselves to each other and we spoke about our families.
This audio is a conversation between myself and another Spanish speaker. We had a conversation about ourselves, what we like to do, and our favorite food.

EXPLORING CULTURE

The one thing that has pushed me to want to become fluent in Spanish is the sentiment I have towards my best friend’s parents. They are immigrants from Mexico and only speak Spanish although they can understand English. I am the opposite. When they speak to me in Spanish, I would respond in English. Although this form of communication works, I still want to be able to speak to them in Spanish. Thanks to my best friend and the family, they have taught me about their culture.

ENGAGING IN COMMUNITIES

The continuation of Spanish courses at ODU has provided me the opportunity to be a part of a student community that enjoys learning a new language as much as I do. The assignments have further inspired me to want to interact and meet more Spanish speakers.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

I enjoy listening to Latin music and watching telenovelas. Constantly hearing someone speaking in Spanish has helped me with interpretation.

PRESENTATIONAL SPEAKING

We had assignments on TalkAbroad that really challenged us to step out of our comfort zones. Both video calls were with a partner that spoke Spanish. There were a good range of partners to choose from and they all lived in different parts of the world. My speaking partners were from Nicaragua and Mexico. TalkAbroad is a very good tool to utilize when practicing how to speak and interact in Spanish.

PRESENTATIONAL WRITING

LingoLearning was also a tool that helped us students with writing. Thanks to LingoLearning, we learned plenty vocabulary on sports, hobbies, food, as well as medical terminologies.

INTERPRETIVE LISTENING

We were given many videos that had audio of word pronunciations. Within LingoLearning, we were required to listen to conversations and interpret what was being said. At times we repeated what was said in the audio and other times we were to choose which the correct response would be in Spanish.

INTERPRETIVE READING

In this course we were given many readings in Spanish that we had to translate or interpret. These activities were helpful because it allowed us students to apply what we know to daily situations.
