Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
In this course I used the homework website, the blackboard learning modules, and the online textbook. During the semester, I asked members of my Hispanic family questions to better my conversional skills and overall understanding of the Spanish language. These practices helped better my understanding of the Hispanic culture.
Engaging in Communities
During both of my semesters of Spanish at Old Dominion University, the COVID-19 guidelines of the university prevented me from engaging with Hispanics communities.
Interpersonal Communication
During this semester, I completed interviews with my professor, my classmate, and with native Spanish speakers. I also completed a written assignment for each chapter from the textbook. Outside of class, I spoke with many of my Hispanic family members regularly to continue to grow in my understanding and speaking abilities of the Spanish language.
Presentational Speaking
During this course, I did several interviews with both my classmates and with my professor. These interviews included talking about my family, where I am from, things that I enjoy, and how to stay healthy. These interviews were extremely helpful to my ability to speak in Spanish.
The most challenging thing for me about the Spanish langue is hearing words and then being able to understand them quickly. Reading and writing are my areas of strength, but listening is my area of weakness. In order to overcome this weakness, I actively engaged with the Hispanic members of my family.
Presentational Writing
This semester, there was several written assignments. Each assignment challenged me with learning new grammar and words.
Interpretive Listening
In this course, each chapter required me to listen to Spanish and answer questions about the audio. All of the interviews required me to listening and understand Spanish. listening and understanding Spanish is the more difficult part of learning Spanish for me. To overcome this challenge, I spent a lot of time speaking and listening to Spanish with the Hispanic members of my family so that I could practice and become a better Spanish listener.
Interpretive Reading
During this course, there were several written activities for each chapter. These include reading articles in Spanish and then answering questions about them in Spanish. Reading Spanish is easy for me to do. Unlike English, what is written is what is also spoken.
