AI Has More Effects Than People Realize

Introduction

Artificial intelligence demonstrates that a path crosses when you connect this with the psychology and social systems of humans. This article ties in how important it is to connect criminal justice in a proactive manner so that this intelligence may have the potential to catch these patterns within humans before the crime happens. They want to use things like Anthropology, criminology, and sociology with artificial intelligence to determine patterns within deviant attackers.

This article really liked to make the question known such as to figure out what challenges there are preventing attackers from committing an artificial intelligence cybercrime. The focus on deep fakes and how it is under researched is something that Dr. Choi was interested in. Several social engineering attacks were made on celebrities doing provocative things that were being shown to the public. Since they’re not many laws that correspond crime with artificial intelligence, its difficult to convict someone of a crime since not much has been passed by the government to protect the people.

Research & Analysis

Dr. Choi utilized multimethod research comparing previous studies that have been done in the healthcare sector before artificial intelligence and with the use of artificial intelligence to make an analysis off these studies. The last study that was used for analysis seemed to be a honeypot since it was just looking at the traits and behaviors for both the attacker and the victim. Dr. Choi seemed to use data analysis when comparing these studies from attacks that happened in the past to more recent attacks today. From these cases they analyzed the attacks used and compared it with the different attacks used and seeing how proactive other companies are with protecting their data from both AI and the different behavior patterns people have when committing cybercrimes.

Tying Class to This Article

Comparing this article with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, I think this focuses more on psychological needs compared to the basic needs on this pyramid. Being a victim of cyber crime with artificial intelligence can absolutely shatter friendships, relationships, and their self esteem needs. While the basic needs, specifically the safety needs, are important to mention here since their security and safety have been breached. Their status could be completely ruined based on someone’s ability to create deepfakes using AI. With the lack of awareness on how to handle cybercrime with AI, it makes it easier for attackers to get away with it. Since this article wants to really target deepfakes since it’s the easiest one for many to see that it’s a crime, this could be used as blackmail against the individual. Marginalized groups also lack resources to defend themselves when it comes to being victims of cybercrime.

Conclusion

I think overall the awareness with cybercrime in general is severely low when it comes to people understanding what’s at risk based on what they post or the data they enter on their profiles. People need to understand the negatives of AI and the way people are seeing that the most currently is based on politics. With more awareness on how AI can be used against people from either advertisements or put onto their feeds from an algorithm, I think this would best bring awareness while the government figures out how to deal with this new issue of AI within cybercrime.
