MPH 643 Principles of Toxicology

In this presentation I present the following:

1) State the chemical you selected and describe where it is found in the environment.
2) How are people exposed and what is the most common pathway of exposure?
3) Describe how the chemical is metabolized and how it is distributed throughout the body.
4) Describe how the chemical is stored or excreted from the body.
5) Describe how fast (i.e. the kinetics) the chemical is metabolized and excreted from the body.
6) Describe if the chemical can be measured in the human body or its excrements and how it could be measured.
7) Injury Mechanism – For the chemical you selected discuss how the chemical causes damage to the human body. Do not simply list symptoms or tell the class what the damage is, describe the mechanism of how the damage occurs

•Infectious diseases such as Malaria are a global environmental health issue since they affect vast
populations.

•The presentation indicates that malaria is endemic to tropical and low socioeconomic areas,
including Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

•Pregnant women, children below five years, and other immune-compromised individuals are the
target group affected

•Moreover, it would benefit affected communities to engage in alternative irrigation, water, and
waste management systems.

    • Ensuring student access to quality foods and nutrition reduces the risks of complex health conditions like diabetes and obesity.

    • As a public health initiative, plant-based diets are a community responsibility, and all stakeholders should be engaged. 

    • The main goal is to increase community awareness of the benefits and importance of plant-based foods. 

    • Challenging students and other communities to embrace plant-based foods will create positive health outcomes.

 

MPH 746 Study Design Project

Prevalence of Diabetes in Norfolk Veteran Association Population Cross-Sectional Study.

The study aims to determine the extent to which Diabetes that has negatively affected the veterans living with the condition, and the general population by investigating some of the potential complications associated with living with Diabetes in Norfolk, VA, evaluating the veterans (Norfolk) understanding of Diabetes and diabetes-related complications and to the general understanding of Diabetes among veterans in Norfolk and some of the specific mortality rates associated with Diabetes.

MPH 611

Group project during Social and Behavioral Sciences for Public Health where as a group we discussed and presented on heart disease. During our collaboration we wanted to define the preventive strategies to the population and make them see the need for taking insurance coverage and being informed about financial support. Significant work and resources are contributed by the CDC in the hopes of reducing the prevalence of heart disease in the United States.
