Cybersecurity statistics and research

Jonathan Rice – Journal 3 After viewing the information available at PrivacyRights.org I have some ideas about how researchers might use this information to study security and data breaches. From the last few years, there are more than 143 million people whose records were impacted by data breaches in America.  The information about the type of breaches collected might help cyber security analysts decide where to focus their energy in terms of preventing these types of breaches. There are also over 2000 unknown causes, and 1250 of which they were unable to determine the source location of the breach or hacker. It does also appear from the statistical map that California poses a bigger risk than any other state in the US.  If you widen the information to the past decade you can see that New York was also a very big hot spot. If you look at New York now, although a hot spot as expected due to their high amounts of people and businesses there, New York has gotten their total amount of hacks and breaches down.  One could therefore conclude that measures New York has taken as a state over the last decade have improved overall cybersecurity for that state.
