Malow’s Hierarchy of needs and how it can relate to my experiences with technology. To begin let’s start from the bottom, Phycological needs: For some people including myself we see technology as a form of rest, after finishing the day some of us turn on our televisions to watch something or play something so as to cool off/unwind for the day. Safety needs: Security cameras is a perfect use for this category, a device that allows you to watch over your house, something like a “ring doorbell” which is a doorbell with a camera installed that alerts you if someone approaches, giving you ample to react to what it might be, whether its just a mail man or if it’s a robber. Belongingness and love needs: For many people once again including myself have friends they met on the internet, which was great during the pandemic, it helped people from going crazy during isolation, I also recently met one of my online friends in real life. Esteem needs: I enjoy competitive games, I would say the closest thing to “prestige” that I felt would be placing 3rd place in playoffs on a high school Esports team for a game called Valorant, I felt pretty accomplished, we had lost 1st place by only a single game. Lastly Self-actualization: I myself want to create videogames, a medium of entertainment that I have enjoyed since I was a kid, I feel like videogames can be some of the most creative things made on the planet at the moment, at least when I comes to story telling, as for creativity with technology I would say VR (virtual Reality) would take the top spot for just technology, I myself own a Meta quest 3 which is a VR headset and it allows for an insane amount of immersion but also due to limitations, a lot of creativity.
