CYSE Journal Entry 14

I think the five most serious violations that internet users might do are,

  1. Illegal searches
  • Sharing passwords and addresses or photos that are not yours.
  • Collecting information from people who are younger than 13
  • Bullying and trolling
  • Using Unofficial streaming services

I think Illegal searches are easily the worst offense if done intentionally, searching up how to do something like make a bomb makes you a possible serious to the authorities and other civilians.

Sharing things like passwords that aren’t yours is already not great but sharing addresses in my opinion can be worse, for instance if a celebrities address were to be leaked it might lead to some very unwanted guests. Worse, if your grandma uses the same password for her Netflix and her bank, you might unwittingly cause her to be a victim of bank fraud if you share her password with someone else.

Collecting information from those under the age of 13 is also be a problem, if their information is collected, advertisers would likely use that information for targeted ads that try them to buy something. A few years ago YouTube tweeted from their main account that their platform was the #1 platform for children’s entertainment, because they said that from their main account and not the YouTube Kids account they were sued.

Bullying in an online setting is sometimes really not acceptable, friendly banter is fine but as soon as you target a stranger for the sake of being rude, it’s no longer funny, some people have severe issues and find it difficult to disassociate with the online world, they take insults as truths and are sometimes pushed too far before getting help.

Last but not least, using unofficial sites to stream content not owned by the creator, you are not paying for the premium item you want, you are actually just stealing that content, the same as taking a dvd off of a shelf at the store, the only difference being that you’re less likely to be caught online
