Helping others has always been one of my favorite things to do. I love to be unselfish and help people because seeing others smile makes me smile. I am a firm believer in karma, and if you do something good, something good will happen to you. Due to covid, I didn’t do 5 nice things to 5 different strangers, I didn’t want to put others in an uncomfortable situation as well as risk getting myself or my family sick. In my hometown, there is a Giant (grocery store) where a handicap family always go to. Everyone knows this family and anytime I see them I try to shop with them just incase they need help with reaching for an item or carrying items. My brother and I saw them the weekend of March 5th and helped them shop and load their items into their car. That same weekend, I went to my grandparents and helped them with chores since my grandfather is getting older in age and I know he can’t move around and lift items he used to be able to lift on his own. Helping older people and handicap people is something everyone should do because you would want that help if you were in their situation.
During spring break, I chose to Help my little cousin with some football drills. My cousin is entering High School and plans on joining his schools football team. I know his primary sport isn’t football but he wanted to follow in his family members footsteps and play football so I decided to teach him some great tips and help train him so he can make it to varsity as soon as possible and he enjoyed every moment of it, even when I yelled at him. I also chose to take my other cousin to her dance practice and competition because her parents were stuck at work. She loves when I go watch her perform because I am her biggest hype man. She always supported me with football so I try to support her as much as I can with her dancing. The last thing I did kindly was for a stranger. Since I live near Washington D.C., I see a lot of strangers walking around and most of them tend to get lost or want to know some activities to do around the city. I was with my siblings and cousins and we saw another group of teenagers who were obviously lost and had no idea what to do so we allowed them to join us for the day and just walk around town. That group was definitely excited to be able to join another group so they could actually not get lost and my family loves meeting new people so we all enjoyed the day together.
Helping others is always something people should practice. You never know what someone is going through and doing one small positive action for someone could really change their mood as well as changing your mood. Seeing everyone I helped smile and thank me made me feel like a good guy and I know one day in the future, my good deeds will be paid back to me.

Usually photos describe someone’s life, personality, or special events that took place during their lifetime. You are able to figure out if someone is a family man/woman, an athlete, an artist, etc. Social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have become the gateway to storing photos of your life for everyone to see who you are as a person. When I look at six photos of myself, I would say they represent me as a family man, athlete, loving friend, student, brother, and son.
I chose to look at photos from High School first. I played football for 13 years of my life as well as some other sports. Playing sports has brought me many friends, experiences and excitement and I would not be who I am without it. I also looked at photos from my high school graduation which was a big accomplishment in my life because it led me to ODU and a very bright future. I’ve also chose photos of my entire family. My family has been through everything together and we have an unbreakable bond. Family vacations to the mountains every year has become a tradition for my family which has showed me how important family is. All photos I have hold a special place in my heart just because it shows all the relationships I have gained over 20 years of my life.

All four of the heuristics in social cognition are used by just about everyone every single day. Heuristics is the way someone makes their daily decisions in work, school, or in personal life to affect their daily outcome positively or negatively. Most of time, we make the choice unconsciously because we are either used to this particular challenge or just because we want to chose the safest/smartest outcome possible. All of the four heuristic examples interconnect with each other in a specific and interesting way.
Representativeness heuristics helps you come up with a solution based off of certain characteristics that are provided to you. For Example, When a cop is interrogating a suspect, they use clues such as body language, movements and the suspects speech to decide if he is innocent or guilty. Sometimes the characteristics given to you don’t always lead you to an answer or it may lead you to the wrong answer, but you chose the safest option just because those characteristics allowed you to believe that was correct.
Availability heuristic I believe you use the least out of the four heuristics. Availability heuristics is when you use the information you may hear from a particular source that isn’t credible or when you use your own information based off of a particular fear. People may believe that one thing is a fact when in reality, it is not a fact, you just believe it because that’s what society or you want to believe.
Anchoring & adjustment heuristic I associate more with careers such as real estate, car dealers, auctioneers, and statistic keepers. This Heuristic is basically when people use a specific standard such as the price of a house to their advantage but leave enough flexibility to change the price of the house or what you are selling. This could negatively affect someone like a real estate agent if they price a house lower or close to what they actually want to sell the property for because they don’t have enough flexibility to adjust the initial anchor they placed on the table.
Lastly, I like to think Status Quo heuristics as the “safest/smartest option heuristic”. Basically, this is when you use prior knowledge or experience to choose which option in front of you is the best option for yourself. most people will shop at the same retail store rather than a new store because they know the prices of specific items and they never have to worry about not liking the product they chose from that store. This prevents some people from trying new things or new stores that could ultimately better benefit you, but it is the safest option for yourself.
