Journal Entry #1- In the workforce, I want to focus on developing my reputation within cybersecurity and train myself to the best of my ability so I’m ready for any challenge that comes my way. I can accomplish this by asking people who are specialized in this type of work and how they solved certain problems during their time there. I also want to progress in my career and become a leader in the cybersecurity world and have that leadership to guide people in the right direction
Journal Entry #2- There are mainly social sciences that apply to cybersecurity and those disciplines. For instance, psychologists, criminologists, and even behavioral science disciplines have to understand why a person’s data breaches a certain platform. Is it for money? Is it for blackmail? Problems like that. Cybercrime is a lot more difficult to handle than physical crime because you can track your foot prints a lot better which is why they need people that specialize in cybersecurity so they can also understand how to crack the cybercrime.
Journal entry #3- Researchers are always digging and finding ways and patterns hackers take to breach a company, organization, or even your personal device. When one of the first, second, or third iPhones came out they had this feature on your phone called a health app. You would have to sign up for the app or your phone would automatically have it logged in. It would keep track of your fitness and exercise goals. Companies and even organizations have these type of authentication or authorization that involves in a username or password that could be hacked and breached if the password or username isn’t strong enough. Though these type of apps are always vulnerable to personal breaches and people can steal your information on it. Overall the point is researchers will use these types of patterns to stop data breaches.
Journal entry #4- Maslow’s Hierarchy is a psychological pyramid of what and how important a person needs in their life. We see that as psychological way and it can be seen our experiences with technology. The bottom of the pyramid would be a microwave, fridge, dishwasher, etc. These types of technology is the basics you need to make food and make water. The next level the (Security and safety) would be safety locks, a fire alarm, a security alarm if someone were to break in. The next level (Love and belonging) would be a cell phone because you can call, text, FaceTime, Social media, you name it. You can do all these things with friends and family and keep connected. The next level (Self esteem) I still believe a higher level of social media can put a lot on your self esteem and if you keep getting positive comments your self esteem will go through the roof. The next and last level is (self actualization) to be honest I think achieving a role in technology and mastering what you’re good at in technology is this level because if you can achieve anything in technology you can be a dangerous person.
Journal entry #5-
1. Recognition- Any time of person that can get away with a crime develops and ego and they full untouchable. They want to get their name out there so they hack these companies and even hack individual people and could even make a logo out of themselves to be recognized. This type of status will give them respect in their world and that ego feels good to them.
2. For money- In my opinion a lot of these hackers get a lot of money from hacking major companies. Hackers can start from $10,000 and dry up the company until they get a few hundred million. I see this being second because I feel like this is one of the driving roles that hackers start from to get money and reputation.
3. Political- There have been so many theories and rumors that a lot of the elections and political side of things get hacked all the time even by our own people. I think this is the third reason because they can ruin an election and rig it so we don’t run our country at best. They want to see a country fall and not a lot of people are fans of Americans so they use this type of stuff against us.
4. Entertainment- Maybe it isn’t all for the glory or the reputation. Some people just like torturing other people for the fun of it and think it’s interesting to see a person crumble. This is one of the more harsher reasons because there is almost no motive to it except for seeing the other person suffer.
5. Revenge- Lets just say you and your other friend got into an argument a really heated and personal argument to the point where you guys are enemies now and don’t want anything to do with each other. That other friend has some ties to bad people and can tell them to hack you for revenge. This is one of the lowest reasons because I feel like it does happen but I feel like you have to hire one of these hackers to get back at the other person.
6. Boredom- Just like entertainment this is literally no reason they are hacking another individual they are just bored. They might not even steal a whole lot or maybe they will, but I feel like a hacker with a bored mindset could go for something bigger, but since they’re so bored and lazy they probably won’t.
7. Multiple reasons- Hackers have many different motives on why they hack. It could be personal, an ego boost, living up to their reputation, or it can be just straight boredom. There could be so many reasons why a hacker does the things they do.
Journal entries #6- To spot a fake website you got to be really careful what you click on. For instance a phishing email could contain a “too goo to be true” deal, and lure the victim in to press on the website link. Don’t go to websites that have a lot of ads on them because these websites can also download bad malware onto your computer to affect the hard drive. Another example to look for is bad spelling in the website or the url. If there is spelling errors then most likely its a scam site.
