Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

In our cultural assignments from our LingroLearning we would have to look up online about a certain topic that would tell us information on a certain Spanish Speaking country such as Mexico. Topics would include same-sex marriages, food, how they celebrate certain holidays, or even which sport is the most popular in the country. From working on these activities would help us learn new traditions and other interesting information about other Spanish speaking countries. In class, we would discuss in class about what we have found out and share with the class on interesting information regarding the topic.

Engaging in Communities

It is important to engage with your community because you can always learn something new from anybody. This especially works with engaging in Spanish speaking communities because if you begin to speak their language with others who speak Spanish, then you can most definitely learn somethin new about their language. Whether it would be a grammar mistake or using the wrong form of past and present progressive verb. Other than speaking Spanish with Spanish speaking communities, you can also learn new information about their traditions or how they would celebrate certain holidays like Christmas.

Interpersonal Communication

This was the first time for me to ever use TalkAbroad where I would have a conversation with someone from another Spanish speaking country. It was pretty good practice for speaking Spanish and learning something new for the course. This was one of the few oral practices we had in this course to practice speaking Spanish. Other ways we did this was speaking the language in class amongst our peers and teachers.

I talked to someone from Nicaragua and learned a little about his country and also his family. As I engaged in a conversation with him I have also learned new words in Spanish. I realized the more I talked to him in Spanish the more understanding and comfortable I was when it came to speaking the language with another Spanish-Speaking person.

Presentational Speaking

Presentational speaking activities were some of the projects where would have to record ourselves speaking Spanish on a certain topic for a certain time. We would also practice in class and speak Spanish in front of the class for our activities in Lingrolearning.

One of the main challenges was overcoming the feeling of being nervous but a way for me to overcome this was to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Another was making sure I conjugated my verbs and used the correct form of verbs right. To overcome this challenge I would look over the material again then keep on practicing until I got it down. Our teacher was also their to help with any questions anyone had.

Presentational Writing

A project we did where we talked about an illness then wrote about the symptoms and ways to treat was one of the prime examples we had when it came to presentational writing. We wrote this composition all in Spanish by some photos used for examples of the illness.

One of the challenges for this project was making sure I used my command verbs properly. Knowing when to use command verbs versus regular conjugated verbs was tricky to get used to. It was only through trial and error on LingroLearning where I could help myself understand better on when and how to use these verbs for this project.

Interpretive Listening

We watched some videos that taught us different verbs and ways to conjugate them. We would also complete activities where we would have to listen to some Spanish speaking audio and then answer some questions.

We would listen to some audio where it would be a Spanish speaking person having a conversation with us. After listening, we would then reply back by recording our voice speaking Spanish replying back to the conversation. Another would be listening to some more audio and then selecting the answer choice on what they were talking about. The takeaway from all of this was that it helped improve our listening so that when we would talk to someone in Spanish we would be able to understand a little more of what they are saying.

Interpretive Reading

Language Learning Center

In LingroLearning we would have some activities where we would have to read a passage and select a number of verbs they want us to select like conjugated verbs. Another would be reading over some sentences and filling in the blanks.

The only thing that I would find challenging from these activities was making sure I understood what was being said in the readings. With each assignment that has been given to us regarding reading, I would say I have grown from it and now can understand a little more of what is being said. To overcome not knowing what was written in passages, I would simply look back at the vocabulary or other material that was learn. I would also look up on what the word meant without using google translate.
