  1. Why is it important to study a world language? It’s important to study a world language to expand your brain processes, be able to navigate new areas of the world independently, and decenter your understanding of cultures and diction. When we know two or more languages or study a second language, our brains improve in how they are able to learn and retain new information in all areas of life, so there are hidden benefits as well. It’s also an important life skill to know a second language because you can help yourself when going somewhere where your native tongue isn’t the main language, not to mention that it’s much cheaper than hiring a tour guide. And then, because languages have fundamentally different ways of describing the same things, you can shift your perspective of how you see and interact with the world from its building blocks.
  2. Why are you studying French? I’m studying French because it is what I’ve studied since middle school and I prefer to pursue a BA degree. I chose French in middle school because I knew it had smaller class sizes, so I could potentially get more individualized help from teachers. As for my undergrad studies, I like the Bachelor of Arts requirements much more than the Bachelor of Sciences requirements since I find that language is much easier for me to accommodate than math and labs.
