Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

Computers can easily be described as a necessary evil. They have brought so many positive advancements to the world but have also brought in things that make the world more dangerous. An example of a positive would be the advancement of medical practices. Without computers, there would be no X-rays, no ultrasounds, and no MRIs. These are instruments that are used on a pretty much daily basis in hospitals and can essentially save lives. Another positive would be the vast improvement of education and knowledge. Computers are a way to connect years of books and information to humans with simple searches. Databases and search engines replaced years of encyclopedias, and all come in seconds. Also with computers, we have access to voice memos, videos, audiobooks, and images that would otherwise have to be found in other forms of research. However, computers have also made the world a more dangerous place. One example I would use is the effects of social media. Although it is not a fatal danger, it is still no less dangerous. Social media’s main disadvantage is the vast amount of misinformation. There have been an incalculable number of rumors and stories that have been circled since its invention. It also makes for the problem of mass following. There have been occasions where opinions are said in comments or posts and cause people to blindly follow the opinion to seem more accepted or cool. This causes a lot of unoriginality and a sense of being yourself for fear of being seen as an outcast. Everyone should be able to have their own opinions on any given topic without fear of being ridiculed. This however is just a small problem in the vast positives that computers give us in today’s world.
