Cyber technology is now a staple in every workplace. No matter what the job is most of the work in today’s day and age is done through some type of technology device. Whether it be tablets or computers, the workplace will need to be run through some type of technological checkpoint to either get work done or have a place to store information. This is an advantage but can also cause problems. One issue that it brings is the opportunities for misconduct or deviance in the workplace. An example of this would be inappropriate messaging or emails. Being that with most technology systems you won’t have to be face to face with anyone, it opens opportunities for people to speak in ways that would be inappropriate or informal to say in normal settings. This can lead to sexual misconduct or harassment because people tend to feel some type of immunity when they are speaking over the internet rather than in real life. Another issue would be dishonesty, being that a lot have jobs have decided to move to primarily remote, people may not feel as inclined to do the work to the same degree as if they were working in a cubicle. In recent months I have seen a lot of videos going viral displaying how life is as a remote worker and there are many ways that I’ve seen to get around working. I have seen things like people taping their mouse to the top of a Roomba vacuum and having it roam around the house to give the perception of them working. These actions that you don’t expect or welcome as a company, but honestly the good still outweighs the bad. The technology that we use may have some flaws, but there is no substitute for this technology’s efficiency.
