Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

4 Majors that relate to cybersecurity

Computer Science: The most obvious major that would be related to cybersecurity would be computer science. They essentially use the same curriculum with just a few differences. Both cybersecurity and computer science have coding aspects where they require some type of knowledge of a computing language like Python, C++ or Java. They also require many literacy courses, even if you already know how to code, you need to know why you’re doing it.

Criminal Justice: Criminal Justice is a very important aspect of cyber security, in order to be able to secure something, you have to know the legal matters that take place. Some cybersecurity classes speak on the topic of hacking, but not all hacking is legal. There is such thing as ethical hacking that means you are hacking for morally or legally right means, but if you are working in cybersecurity, a lot of the times you are working against people who are doing it for illegal purposes, in both criminal justice and cyber security the courses you take are focused on the ins and outs of the legality in their respected fields.

Business: This major is a lot less tight knitted as the last two. However, business and cyber security still somewhat go hand-in-hand.  Most cybersecurity jobs are working for businesses that need some type of protection. The role of the cybersecurity department is to keep the information made by the marketing or other departments safe. For one to work they need the other and vice versa, because without cybersecurity all of the information could be stolen.

Sociology: The final major that comes to mind is sociology. I think about this major because it relates to the ethical behavior that is necessary for cybersecurity. Although sociology is not very technically focused it still uses some of the same principles that might be used in a cybersecurity program.
