There are only a few negatives that come to mind when I think about creating a cybersecurity division, but one of the most prevalent would likely be the cost. Even though computers are everywhere now they still are pricey, and for you to have a successful cybersecurity core your computers are going to need to be top of the line. That way the employees will have every resource they need to be able to fight and fend off cyber-attacks as well as protect everything they need to. Along with the price of the computers you also are going to need to pay your staff, the salary for cybersecurity workers is between around $70k to $130k per year. Even though the job is almost mandatory that is going to be a big hit to a payroll no matter who the company is.
On the other hand, building a cybersecurity division will have a lot of upsides. The reassurance you will have knowing that your company’s information is secure is priceless. Having a cybersecurity division allows the company to be able to focus on the business aspect while someone else is working solely on keeping that business safe. It allows the first line of defense against any type of cyber-attacks or malware that may corrupt any files the business or employees have. Another benefit of a cyber security division would be that it would be able to protect the company against internal threats. If there happened to be anyone hired by or working under contract for a company that intended to do harm, the cybersecurity department would be able to identify that type of risk. They would be the only people who could see any type of attacks on company systems and would know the way to defend against any type of malpractice of that sort.
