Article Review 1

The article I decided to use speaks on the cyber bullying of women in Iraq, the reason I decided to review this article is because of the constant beratement and disrespect I’ve seen of women on the internet lately. In recent years I have been able to observe that many women are attacked any time they log on to any kind of social media platform and this article proves my thoughts, according to the Human Right Commission (HRC) More  than  45%  of  girls  using  social  media  are  facing  personal  attacks. Some of these attacks that happen seem to also be unsolicited and out of nowhere without any prior agitation being started from the female.

The reason I feel like this article is related to social sciences is because it gives great insight on how women are marginalized in not only the U.S, but the entire world. Unfortunately, the article doesn’t give much insight into what kind of bullying that these women go through, quoting hate speech and “women bullying” at 45 and 63 percentage rate respectively. However, the articles results do explain that the rate of police interference with these acts of “violence” are declining at an alarming rate, which is scary and harmful to these women without a doubt.

In conclusion, I feel that this article did a good job of explaining the difficulties that Iraqi women and women around the world have to go through on a daily basis while being on the internet and if we use articles like these to combat the effects of bullying on the internet we can help stop the effects that they can have on these women and slow the issues they might have in the future.
