Cyber technology has created a few issues when it comes to crimes and the interactions between the offender and the victim. The first one that comes to mind is the interactions between young children and predators. This issue is a problem simply because of the availability that these pedophiles have to underage people. They go into chat rooms or direct messages of these kids and have conversations with them knowing that it is illegal and wrong. However, unless it is resolved at the source it is hard to identify these problems because they happen in private. Another issue I see is for victims of domestic abuse. Since technology is, for the most part, anonymous and can reach almost anyone it is very easy for abusers to keep in contact with their victims. This can cause issues because it can lead to increased anxiety and fear from victims without the abuser ever having to meet face to face. This also includes things like cyber stalking and bullying. This allows them to get around things like restraining orders, because they can still communicate with the victim even though they are not within so many feet of the victim. These impacts are mostly negative and damaging. However, one thing that I see as a positive are the registry offenders are required by law to sign up for. For example you are able right now to search anyone in your neighborhood to see if they are a sex offender. This is a positive because this allows victims some sort of piece of mind that the person that violated them are able to be seen and are less likely to violate another victim. Even though that doesn’t change what happened to them, they at least can help prevent another attack on someone else. These are just a few impacts cyber technology has on victim/offender interactions.
