Module 5

Review the articles linked with each individual motive. Rank the
motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense
(being 1) to the least sense (being 7). Explain why you rank each
motive the way you rank it.

Entertainment (6): Makes a little amount of sense because there is nothing to be gained, only a small amount of money is available and there is no sense of duty is to be made. The only reason I see this as feasible is if he wanted to practice for a bigger attack but even then there would need to be a higher motive to risk jail time.

Political (2): Makes a lot of sense due to the reasoning behind the situations. Some gov’t agencies are corrupt and don’t detail mistakes they make and would rather hide it from the public, people becoming activists to expose these bts actions would make a lot of sense to me, even though it is still somewhat wrong.

Revenge (3): Although I do not agree, revenge is a very viable reason/motive to launch an attack. Whether it be a revenge porn attack or trying to breach a former company I can understand why they might try and do that.

Boredom (7): To hack because you are just simply bored makes absolutely no sense to me. There are thousands of ways to keep yourself occupied so why choose an option that could cause damage to people.

Recognition (4): A reasonable but not understandable motive. I understand people want to be seen or recognized but is it really worth jail time or heavy fines just for people to know who you are?

Money (1): Definitely the most understandable reason. Money is the motive for anything and is the leading cause of why people do a lot of what they do. If you are hacking or launching an attack at least make some money off it.

Multiple Reasons (5): Any other reason I wouldn’t be able to fight for one way or the other,
