Linux Administration and Password Security – CYSE 270

In CYSE 270, I learned more about using Linux and working with different cybersecurity tools. I got experience using the terminal, managing files and accounts, setting permissions, and learning about password security with tools like John the Ripper. I also worked with backups and crontab. These assignments helped me get more comfortable using Linux and understand how these skills are used in cybersecurity.

2. Networking and Subnetting

Through my networking assignments, I learned more about how computers communicate and how networks are set up. I worked with IP addresses, subnetting, routing, and network configurations using Cisco Packet Tracer. These assignments helped me understand how networks work and why knowing how to troubleshoot them is important for cybersecurity.

3. NIST Cybersecurity Framework and Policy Analysis

In my cybersecurity classes, I learned about different frameworks and policies that organizations use to protect their systems and information. I researched the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and looked at how organizations identify risks, protect their systems, and respond to threats. I also worked on assignments about government cybersecurity policies and national security. This helped me understand that cybersecurity involves more than just technology and also includes laws, policies, and decision-making.

4. Risk Management and Security Controls

My coursework introduced me to risk management and the different ways organizations protect their information systems. I learned about security controls, risk assessments, and frameworks like the NIST Risk Management Framework. These topics helped me understand why organizations need to plan ahead and have security measures in place instead of waiting for something to go wrong.

5. Deepfake AI Research Project

For my deepfake AI research project, I looked into how artificial intelligence can create fake images, videos, and audio that seem real. I researched how deepfakes can be used for misinformation, fraud, identity theft, and political manipulation. I also looked at how these issues affect people who use phones, computers, and other technology. This project helped me understand some of the newer risks that come with AI and why cybersecurity is important for protecting people.

6. Cybersecurity Policy and National Security Research

Through my cybersecurity policy assignments, I learned more about how governments deal with cyber threats and protect national security. I researched topics like cyber deterrence, cybersecurity strategies, and the use of offensive cyber operations. These assignments also made me think about the ethical and political sides of cybersecurity. I learned that protecting systems and information can involve difficult decisions that go beyond the technical side of things.

7. Information Assurance Project – CS 465

My CS 465 Information Assurance Project is one of the projects I plan to include in my professional ePortfolio. Through this project and my coursework, I learned more about protecting information and understanding the importance of security in computer systems. Including this project gives employers a chance to see some of the work I have done throughout my degree program and how I have developed my cybersecurity knowledge.

8. Technical Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting

Throughout my CYSE classes, I have worked on assignments that required me to figure out problems, research solutions, and apply what I learned. I have worked with topics like Linux, networking, password security, and different cybersecurity tools. These experiences have helped me become better at problem-solving and more comfortable working through technical challenges.

9. Leadership and Teamwork – Zumiez

Working as a manager at Zumiez has helped me build leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. I have experience working with a team, helping coworkers, handling responsibilities, and dealing with problems in a fast-paced environment. Even though retail management is different from cybersecurity, I know these skills are still important in any career. Being able to communicate, stay organized, and work well with others are all things I can bring into a future cybersecurity job.

10. Cyber Law, Forensics, and Professional Development

As I continued through college, I became more interested in cyber law and forensics and how technology connects to investigations and legal issues. My classes have helped me learn about both the technical side of cybersecurity and the laws, policies, and ethical issues that come with it. After graduation, I want to keep building my skills, work on additional certifications, and gain more experience in the field. I am especially interested in government cybersecurity, digital forensics, and remote job opportunities.

Skills I Have Developed

Cybersecurity Knowledge: Through my classes, I have learned about password security, risk management, security frameworks, networking, and different types of cyber threats.

Problem-Solving: My assignments have helped me learn how to work through technical problems, research solutions, and apply what I have learned.

Research and Communication: My research projects have helped me get better at finding information, understanding cybersecurity issues, and explaining what I learned.

Leadership and Teamwork: My experience as a manager at Zumiez has helped me learn how to work with others, communicate clearly, and take responsibility.

Critical Thinking: My cybersecurity policy and research assignments have helped me look at problems from different perspectives and understand how technology can affect people, businesses, and governments.

1.
