The world of sports has gone through a drastic change as the years have gone by. Anything pertaining to sports has changed such as the way it’s played, the way it is called, and even the way the fans consume the sports information and news. There are numerous methods of consuming sports, and it is evolving more and more as times goes by. My consumption has changed drastically from when I started to watch sports till now. Five years ago, I used to just watch games, and go to school to tell friends about what happened without any type of social media interaction. Sports have evolved and became so interesting in today’s time that it feels almost impossible not to use social media for a source of consumption. Even though there are many differences in how I consume sports now, there are things about my consumption of sports that has not changed from when I started. I still like to get my information from multiple sources instead of just solely relying on one source for anything. Opening my sources for information of sports has been one of the main things that I am glad I took into consideration. I say this because some sources are more credible than the others that are provided, and there is nothing wrong with a surplus of information. I use social media, sports apps, and the television as my consumption of sports. I watch sports live on television to start off my consumption so I will be able to make my own opinions and observations. At halftime and the end of the games, I use my sports apps and social media such ESPN, Twitter, and Instagram to get a recap and accurate stats. The next morning, I like to watch the sport analysis shows to see if there is any additional information that is being discussed. After my “diet” of sports consumption, I discuss with my peers about news, game recaps, and comparisons in sports. In the next five years, I predict that sports will be more consumed more in-person if COVID-19 gets more in control. Technology will also increase in interaction as far as sport consumption because of how many people will agree and disagree with different opinions. If I could change anything in the sport communication landscape, I would change the that most of the negative situations in sports were handled by media. In sports, athletes carry a higher image than the average person which makes it hard for other people to put the fact that all athletes are still human and have emotions.
