In today’s era, social media has played a big role in the lives of many people no matter the age group.  Social media is the key platform of the general population as time evolves.  Social media has been around for quite a while, but it did not really take over until the 2010s decade.  People use social media in many ways such as promotion, information, communication, and entertainment.  Social media also plays a tremendous role in the world of sports.  In my opinion, social media is the main outlet for sports whether it’s the athletes, fans, or organizations.  Social media has evolved as time went, and the sports world has taken every opportunity to make the best out of it.  With that being said, I will take this time to explain all the ways that social media and how sports organizations use it for strategic communication.  Sports organizations use their social media platform to the best of their advantage, but sometimes it may backfire on them depending on how the audience takes it.  Organizations in the sports world use their social media to advertise themselves to the public.  They advertise their brand, gear, and their sports clubs to build their name in the world.  Some organizations use their social media to give the players another outlet to showcase their talents to have a boost in making it to the next level of their respective sports.  The social media also can lure athletes into their programs by making their pages look exciting and give a feeling of a second home for the next big athlete.  While a sports organization uses their social media for their clubs and athletes, most organizations use social media to engage with the fans, students, and general population.  This is a good way to raise sells of tickets, gear, and followers on all social media platforms.  Connecting with other schools and organizations is another positive affect of an organization’s social media.  Old Dominion University Football does a great job of using their social media to showcase their athletes such as posting stats and giving an opportunity to be themselves.  Also, they are very active on their page which gives fans the opportunity to speak how they feel about previous games, athletes, and the coaching.
