As we spoke about crisis the past week, I got a more in depth meaning of the term crisis and the best way to go about them. There are many crises that have occurred in the sports world that have made and broke organizations in the past and in the present time. Crises will always be around no matter what sport or industry. Without crises many people would not have a job today. The crises I will be talking about has been swept under the rug since time has passed. I will be talking about the incident where the Kansas City Chiefs’ former Linebackers/Outside Linebackers coach and Head Coach Andy Reid’s son, Britt Reid was involved in a car crash. The car crash took place the day of the team’s departure to Florida for the Super Bowl matchup against the Buccaneers. Britt Reid crashed into two vehicles near the Arrowhead Stadium. The crash resulted in a 5-year-old being hospitalized from the wreck. The young girl named Ariel was transported to the hospital in critical condition. One of the vehicles was helping another vehicle that ran out of fuel. According to authorities, Reid had a blood alcohol content .113. Reid was also traveling 82 mph in a 65-mph zone. Regardless of the profile of any person this act was inexcusable. Britt Reid pled not guilty in his court appearance even with all the evidence against him being strong. Andy Reid was reluctant to talk to media about the situation to avoid any backlash and at the time being that they were focused on the game ahead of them. The Kansas City Chiefs offered to pay the medical expenses of the young girl injured in the accident. Britt Reid’s contract with the Kansas City Chiefs expired while he was on administrative leave. I think the Chiefs would have let Reid go to dodge any backlash from the public or the media. This crisis shows that bad decisions can quickly turn a life around no matter the stature pf the person. A crisis will always be a lesson to one side of the party, while it can devastate the other side.
