I loved watching this Ted-Talk because it highlights some issues that we are still dealing with today, even in 2021. I haven’t watched a Ted talk like this. I forgot how great the effect social media has had on our society. It’s a brainwashing tactic to make us believe what is unattainable and honestly toxic to our community but specifically women. Ads like these have continued to populate media sources so it is our responsibility to continue talking about these topics and move forward into a more realistic world. Women have been held to a standard that although portrays well for larger company revenue, damages what our world truly looks like and has become a leading source for unhealthy behavior. Unfortunately, I have experienced this distortion and manipulation first hand because I’m a fitness professional. Fitness ads have distorted women’s bodies to make us believe that is what the ideal and perfect body looks like and everything else is wrong, ugly, or unhealthy. I have myself been a victim of this manipulation because men are also made to believe that only “big” muscular men are healthy and strong.

The first ad is dismissive of any form of strength women have. It tells the consumer that women are not strong enough to open a bottle, so they would buy this since it is easier accessible. It does not make the company bad but it teaches our society to think that women are not as strong as men. The second is sexist and demeaning to women. “It’s a man’s world” promotes the thought that women don’t have a place except in the kitchen and serving men. the consumer that men run society and those women belong in the kitchen serving men. Van Heusen is a Tie company that fed into sexist ad campaigns that at the time were very prevalent because it made them a lot of revenue. The third ad is a coffee company that is promoting the dominance and control that men had over women at the time.  The quote, “If your husband ever finds out” pressures women to believe they don’t have any power in society and should do as told or else. The fourth ad is another ad where it manipulates women to think they only belong in certain jobs or are here to do the only service in a man’s world. Finally, the last ad I find to be the most disturbing. The ad cropped a woman’s head into a carpet and in turn degraded women by forcing them to believe that is all their worth.

Given the fact that I work full-time and am taking three classes in school while taking care of my personal life, I am doing really well in school. Although I am doing well, I have a few opportunities to improve on my studying and preparation. I think I give myself enough time to study, but I don’t focus the way I should, so I miss a few things. Distractions like social media don’t help so I need to learn how to just stay focused on the one task at hand and remove those distractors.

By removing distractor when I study such as my phone, will help me absorb information better for upcoming tests

I could write about this blog topic for hours. As a former professional ballet dancer, music is a huge part of my life and will continue to be. Music inspires me and allows me to connect to places and people. I’ve only been in love once and we used to share a playlist of all the songs that brought us close. I have fond memories of certain melodies, song titles, and lyrics that will keep me connected to this former lover forever. This person and I have similar music tastes, which makes it so much more special. I like to surround myself with similar energy to mine and more so than not my friends also have similar tastes to mine. Although, certain outliers have their unique taste in music. The first six songs I chose for my soundtrack connected me with the former lover I discussed earlier and the other six songs are special because they make me smile.

Soundtrack:

  1. Love you always forever – Betty Who
  2. EX- Kiana lede
  3. Good Days – SZA
  4. Love Goes – Sam Smith
  5. Sober – Mahalia
  6. You’re the one – Elaine
  7. Paradise- MEDUZA
  8. Peaches – Justin Beiber
  9. Heatwaves – Glass Animals
  10. Link up – Tinashe
  11. Discounts – Cupcake
  12. To be Young – Anne – Marie

This photo is attache to the first song I posted in the soundtrack “Love you alwasy forever.” It represents love for another person

I may not be like other typical students because of the timeline of my life, but it has helped me become a better student because of these differences. You’re probably wondering what I am talking about. I am referring to the fact I am now a 28 year old and didn’t go to school straight out of high school and have had to pay my way through school all on my own. For this reason, I have moved through school with confidence because I knew this is where I wanted to be. My parents did not make me do it and it was at my own expense. Thankfully, I have always excelled as a student and will continue to do so. I trust in my own abilities and talents to accomplish everything it is that I set out to do. As expected, my self-efficacy result was higher than average scoring at 34, but I was not surprised because I am currently doing well in school and I expect to continue to do well.

A Proud Graduate

I chose this picture because it represents a huge accomplishment for me. I graduated with a 4.0 with an associates in psychology and it was very proud moment where I knew I had what it take to the be the best at whatever I set myself to be.
