SCADA Systems

BLUF

SCADA systems is a system software which organizations used to mitigate risks for their infrastructural systems. These systems are crucial to organizations to help relieve possible downtimes.

Vulnerabilities of Critical Infrastructure Systems

There are a plethora of vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure systems. Some being physical others being through cyber attacks or mess ups. There are many systems and entry points that can potentially start a cyber attack. Some vulnerabilities are zero-day attacks, simple misconfigurations, stolen credentials, or even unauthorized access. There are plenty of more vulnerabilities, but these few are very common and can be detrimental to companies and their systems.

What is SCADA and What Role Does it Play?

SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition) is a system used to prevent possible risks and keep a system working. SCADA systems are crucial for industrial organizations since they help to maintain efficiency, process data for smarter decisions, and communicate system issues to help mitigate downtime. In simpler terms, SCADA monitors other systems and sites to help maintain efficiency. SCADA uses many sensors and end devices to do this job. The system is able to alert an operator or admin when something is out of the ordinary. The Operator can then pause or look into the problem using the SCADA system. Then the company can proceed with their possible solutions or what they want to do about the problem.

Conclusion

In conclusion, every critical infrastructure system needs SCADA to help maintain its efficiency. Without using SCADA systems companies are too vulnerable to risks and crucial downtime. Companies need SCADA to continue growing and maintaining their value.
