Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe. Journal 9

Computers have most definitely changed the world in many ways. Back in older times, everything had to be done on books or paper storage mediums. Not only that, all of that information had to be stored physically, and it was only accessible in that one location. In the 21st century, we have had a lot of technological advancement. Computers have made the world more connected. Also computer systems have made the world more secure in many ways. For example, log files can help make things more secure in the computer world. This is present especially in the banking industry. Transactions are highly logged  and monitored. This can help show that deposits and withdrawals are all accounted for accurately. Another benefit of computer safety and security is the concept of non-repudiation.This concept uses digital signatures to verify the sender and receiver of the information. it provides a non-disputable proof of who asked for the information and where it’s going. Another way that computers have made the world more secure is through information availability. With the internet and computers, information is more accessible and available all around the world. Important information can be shared rapidly from social media, and knowledge has increased as a result. Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to the computer world. First of which are hackers and other malicious forces. Computers have allowed adversarial forces to exist in order to gain information, cause trouble, or extort capital. Another drawback about the world depending on computers is the constant need for electricity. Without electricity, computers cannot function and systems go offline.  This can be critical in a situation where computers or other related servers are relied on.  For example, if a bank loses electricity to their servers, what would happen to the pending transactions and users who were trying to access their account at that time? It would not be possible without electricity. Finally, and perhaps the most important drawback that is worth noting in a computer dependent world is privacy rights. There are many debates on who owns the data that users put into servers, and how it is managed. Typically, users cannot control how their information is stored in a company server. This can lead to privacy rights concerns and other issues that can cause confusion.
