Criminal justice and cybercrime are an ever-changing relationship. Cybersecurity, and the cyber world in general changes all of the time. There are always new threats, vulnerabilities, or exploits that can be used. With that comes new crime opportunities. There is so much personal information on the internet that is very valuable to hackers. Criminal justice, by definition, is the process of delivering justice to criminals. Cybercrime, by definition, is any crime that is committed using cyber technology. Cyber Crimes can range from various intensities. For example, a low level crime (but still very dangerous) would be scam emails. A very large attack, on the other hand, could be an event targeting power grids or other critical infrastructure. As stated previously, this world is becoming more connected by technology, so it is expected that crimes will take place in that realm. Criminal justice is definitely an important process for handling serious cyber crime events. The overlap between the two exists in the criminality factor. Just because a crime took place over a computer network does not mean that no crime happened. Oftentimes, cyber crimes can be just as dangerous as crimes in the physical world. Crimes committed in the cyber world are usually seen by others as less personal, as most victims do not see the suspect face to face during the attack like they usually do in the physical world. However, the information that the suspect attains in the cyber world can be very dangerous for the victims. For example, identity theft is a very common threat now. Likewise with credit card fraud, bank fraud, phishing emails, and much more. It is very important to be aware in this day and age. Political science and government, and economics are just two examples of cybersecurity overlap in the disciplines. Government issues, systems, cryptocurrency, and many other aspects require cyber security, and cyber capabilities. This definitely relates to cyber crime and criminal justice, as the items mentioned are very valuable to hackers, so they will be coming for them.
