Article Review #1

The article Cyberbullying and Psychological Stress among Female Employees by Mohammed A. Al Doghan and Saman Arshad takes the broader issue of cyberbullying in the workplace and focuses in on the experiences of women in the workforce of Saudi Arabia. The reason they decided to conduct this study was that there had been previous reports stating that women are more frequently subjected to workplace cyberbullying. Throughout their study, they found that there was a large issue with cyberbullying in the workforce and that this is resulting in “mental pressure, anxiety, depression, low organizational commitment, destroyed perception of organizational justice, low job satisfaction, low performance” and more for the women who are the targets of this bullying. The research was conducted by way of survey, where the subjects would answer a list of questions centered around bullying in the workplace and how it made them feel such as “I had my work unfairly criticized”, “I have been the subject of communications that undermine me”, and “All in all, I am satisfied with my coworkers”. The results were then charted based on the four categories of Organizational Commitment, Psychological Stress, Interactional Justice, and Job Satisfaction. While this article did specifically focus on the Saudi Arabian workforce, I personally believe that much of this remains true when talking about the American workforce. I have personally known women who were victims of cyberbullying at my places of employments, some even escalating to the point of having to quit the job. I would be very curious to see the results of one of those questionnaires filled out by some previous coworkers of mine.
